Well, I did it. I bought a 2001 Larson SEI 190 OB with the Evinrude 150 Ficht, 2001 model. I've been lurking around here for a while, and all the Ficht stuff was disconcerting, but a pattern did eventually emerge-the guys with new ones loved 'em, the guys with older (99 and back) models hated them. The clincher for me was a short trip with a guy who owns a 2001 175-man, what a motor. Quite, smooth, no stink, powerful. He had no problems to report, just lots of fun on not much fuel/oil. I did get a galvanized trailer as I'm getting too old for the every decade or so sandblast/repaint. I can't wait 'till next week-and hope I bought the right brand of boat-lots of different names out there for less. Any of you guys care to comment?
Best,
Ted :)

Nothing to comment on,Ted,except to congradulate you on your new toy. I've heard the horror stories, and the praises. They remind me of the endless Force/Bayliner stuff. But Bomadier builds great stuff. Regardless of what OMC was, it will be different,or it will be discontinued. Only time will tell. But the company at least on a sound footing again.
Enjoy her,and be safe :)

Yea, and just what is the deal with Bliner/Maxxum stuff? A good friend, many years into boating upon hearing I was looking, told me to stay away from both-I looked at a REAl clean 17 foot Maxxum with the 3.0 Volvo, that the only really good reason I passed on was Tony's advice. Well, that and a kinda high price. A good friend of mine owned a Force 125 (guessing) in the early eighties. His experience with that motor pretty much caused him to leave boating-sometimes you GOTTA get off lake Mille Lacs and lake Superior, and that motor let him down in both places at real bad times. Hoping for better with Mr. Ficht...
Best,
Ted
