I have a 60 hp evinrude motor i reciently purchased and am not sure of the year. When I started the motor it was running at a high idle and then I noticed the water stopped coming out of the small hole at the top after a short time. I shut the motor down and checked the hose to make sure there were no leaks. The hose looks fine. I'm not sure if it is the water pump or not but was hoping someone could tell me if I should check anything else before I take the unit appart to check the pump. This is relativly new to me but I do have some mechanical experience so I would like to give it a try before taking it in for service.

Re: evinrude water problem

see if it will flow on muffs 1st. if it does, then put it in a tank or clean garbage-can and fill it all the way up. start it and see if it spits water. I would recommend if you have no idea how long it has been since impeller was changed or if its been a year, CHANGE IT ANY WAY! Good luck and post yer results!

Re: evinrude water problem

I had it on muffs in my driveway when this happened. I was checking it out before I took the boat out. I'll try the tank tomorrow. Could this be why the idle was high as well?
