I'm always stunned when these things bog down into dumbasx discussions about crankshaft torque...It's like having a discussion about who's wife is smarter and using their rack size as a measurement of IQ. In outboards, it's prop shaft hp, at a given RPM in combination with time to reach that RPM that tells the tale.

@ ziemann : well... its a question if i have enough torque for screwing the bottle that the genie stays in ;)

@ ithica : surely every engine design has advantages and disatvantages. the question was not what is better- 2 stroke or 4 stroke -but how can it be that such the difference between nominal same hp engines exists.

for me runnign a 150 ficht ram - when i fill the oil tank it runs very long with it, surely there is no need for filling before every trip. how do you recycle used engine oil?

I will agree that every motor has advantage and disadvantages. I have never owned a good two stroke outboard other than a 1955 johnson sea horse 10hp(which I still have) I purchased a new I/O and a 4 stroke jet ski and have not had a motor issue with either
and they always start. I also help with a ski show and we run two stroke yammy and mercury twins for skiing they work great. I was simply stating the fact I wanted to drive to make sure all was on the up and up.
As for recycling oil we have local recycling centers where we take trash, recycling and yes oil, oil cans, and filters. You can also save up in a drum and a company will come pick it up.

Re: evinrude vs yamaha... is it real or fake?

In 3 years I haven't made an oily mess with my ETEC, there's no measuring and adding to the gas which helps. In 8 years my dad also never made a mess with his 4 stroke Yammie. He loves his, I love mine. See, we can all get along!

The point of the video is the weight difference of the ETEC vs the Yammie and the hole shot, nothing more. They chose a pretty dramatic way of showing it though. Ya have to admit, like em or hate em, their other commercials are hilarious.

@sublauxation : i think in this particular test the engine mass is irrelevenat since in every case the yammi has to carry the weight of the tilted evinrude and the rude has to carry the weight of the tilted yammi.

@ ithica : you are pretty right, like said- i did not wanted to start a discussion if evinrude is better than yamaha or vice versa or a 2 vs 4 stroke discussion. it is good that the market offers many options and technologies and everybody should buy the engine he likes , no question . and i think there is no "best" engine since everybody has other priorities. for one person whole shot is important, the other wants a smooth and quiet engine, fuel economy, also the engine price is important.

it was just a discussion if this video which shows a dramatic hole shot superiority of the etec is to be considered ar real and true or if its just a commercial gimmik of BRP:

Yup, I commented on the wrong video, thought it was the tug of war one.
