Evinrude Steering

Help...I dont know a lot about boats. I have an evinrude outboard motor. The steering stuck. I took both olts oof and the cable moves in and out of the shaft. The problem is I hit the left side of the cable intot he tube and now it it stuck int he tube. Should I knock the piece (this is where the steering bracket attatches) out the other side? I would try to knock the piece back out but the cable is in the way!

get a rod and knock it on thru, is your only option, you may ruin the end of the cable, but if not the tube has to be cleaned. the rust inside.
