Re: Evinrude smoking, losing power @ higher RPM's

A big thank you to all of you that posted replies!

I bought some new gaskets, a float valve and seat, and cleaned out the whole carb. It seems that some krud from the float and one of the old cork gaskets plugged up the high speed jet. I cleaned it out, put it back on and the motor runs like a scalded dog. I need to buy a new float tomorrow, and then I should be done, except maybe some new seals for the lower unit. It had a lot of water in it, with what looked like some ancient oil. I will keep an eye on it to see if more water ends up in there.

Thanks alot to all of you.

cvlngineer :D

A final note cvlngineer, letting engine run out of gas is really bad juju. Ya see, when it runs out of gas, it also runs out of lube (oil) which is bad caca for the engine innards.
G'luck & c/6

hooty

I keep wondering about the run outof gas thing when applied to outbouds using premix. As fuel has an explosive range of x% to Y% a motor running out of fuel will still have some premix in it as it leans out and dies. IE there will still be fuel in the motor as it stops.
