What was the common prop on a 1978 85hp Rude ?
size and pitch
through hub exhaust or not
Would props from any other brand of engine work on Rudes ?

The motor likely came with a 17" pitch but the final prop would depend on what boat it ended up on.It is a through hub.If you look up props here at iboats for the motors you have props for and compare the sku numbers to those for 78 85 Evinrudes.
Johnson props would fit.
