Just purchased a 21' Striper with a 150. Running it at home on the driveway with either muffs or washout hose it idles at about 1000 RPM. This seems quite high. Will it be lower in the water or should I adjust it before the maiden voyage. Ordered a manual on eBay should be here in a few days.Appreciate your replies.

dont change anything with the motor running in the driveway
anyway 1000 on muffs is on the low side.
your motor will run about 700 in gear in the water.

idle timing is the only way to chenge the idle and it should be set at +/- 1* 7* atdc

YOU ARE FINE

agree, the reason is on muffs, there is no back pressure on the exhaust.

Make sure WOT timing is correct and then adjust idle timing so it's about 650-700 in gear. On the advance is a + - toothed rack for fine adjustment. Be certain advance arm is coming back to the stop when in nuetral before any adjustments. Should be 800 or less in nuetral in the water or shifting will be a little rough on the train. Shift quickly into gear to prolong dog and gear life.
Good luck
