Hi, uk (Derby) based and just doing a full service on the above. The prop was well and truly corroded on and had a huge split in so is at best, a paperweight. Struggling to get a 3 fin prop for it and was wondering / hoping someone could point me in the direction of a replacement. Would be a shame to scrap an otherwise good outboard because of it. TIA Phil

MOD EDIT: Adjusted your post slightly . . . The forums are not a buy/sell site as per the forum rules.

Step #1 is to identify CLEARLY what you have.----Perhaps a newer lower unit has been fitted.-----Does your prop have a slip clutch ( rubber ) in it?----Is the prop cap rubber or screw on plastic.----Is the hole for the shear pin near the oil seal or near the prop cap.-----I do not believe 1965 type lower units ever used a 3 blade prop in my area !

There were 3 blade Props from OMC that were for the 65 and later 6hp. Some Metal, others Plastic

The gearcase / propshaft / slip clutch on a 1965 model 6 HP is not the same as what is found on a 66 model.

I guess there could be a Typo on the Chart. Where it lists 5 1/2 and 6, it probably should state 1954 - 1965, the listing for 6hp should be be 66-thur 76. It was from one of OMC Accessory Catalogs.

The 65 model was the last year for the slip clutch inside the gearcase.----Those did not have a rubber hub inside the prop.----Rubber prop cap to hold shear pin.-----Newer ones 66 and on had shear / drive pin in front of prop and threaded prop cap..

Hi, thank you for yor replies. When I split the casing it looked like it had never been opened. I don't have the inner workings to hand as they are at a friends workshop.

ah this post brings back memorys of a 7.5 i still have up the shed that has no prop ," never could find the correct one for it", perfectly good motor , prop got destroyed along with the sheer pin, plastic screw on.
FWIW OP , there is no other prop that fits , those earlier motors seemed to have props unique to the motor .
i looked at fitting a later gear case but it did not fit , off hand i cant remember why .

If you have a 1956 / 57 / 58 model 7.5 HP you can fit the 6 HP gearcase up to the 79 model year.---Just need to know the tricks.-----Finding a prop for those 7.5 models is easy , if you know where to look.-----The ---aomci-----has a free " wanted " section.----Lots of folks there with the parts !

Why all the confusion? That is an aftermarket prop on a 1965 gearcase.
You're correct
Michigan did make some for the pre 66 motors

It was clearly mentioned ( post #9 ) that the 7.5 HP of 56 can have a gearcase of a 6 HP up to 79 fitted.-----There was no mention of 1995 model 6 HP !!
