Hello I should start out by saying I'm new at this. I just got a 1968 Seaswirl 12 footer, with a Evinrude lark on it, the engine cover is ovalish, and the numbers stamped on the freeze plug are # 25526 "on top and" 02156 "in the second row" can the size of the engine and year built be determined from these numbers?
I may be needing some parts. On the first check of this engine, I took the lower unit off and the water pump is still good and pliable but the oil in the lower geared out put was almost empty seems to be leaking from the prop shaft seal. On the top end I inspected the pistons from the exhaust side and there was some galling of the aluminum in the piston skirts but not near the rings, guessing from incorrect oil mix from last owner. I would like to keep this all vintage to go with the boat all help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
