evinrude/johnsons to be avoided ?

going to port charolette tomarrow to look at a wellcraft with a 120 johnson louper hanging on it. 100 hrs. have not kept up with the OMC motors to be avoided as i would rather hang my own engine. can someone tell me what to walk away from as to what year motors went south for OMC and put them out of business ??? i have high regards tor mercs and yamahas , and have totally ignored anything with an older OMC. appreciate any input. thanks fred.

Stay away from anything that is associated with the word FICHT. Don't think that applies to the 120s. The OMC V4s are hard to break. What year are you looking at?
