I Jump started my 1998 Ficht with the 24V trolling motor. I soon realized this was a mistake when "check engine" alarm and lite came on. This is a built in gage unit showing "No Oil", "Water", "Check Engine" and "Low Oil". The engine was check out by local boat dealer and engine runs fine, but they didnot have a computer to check out the electrical system. Contacted out of town Evinrude dealer he said the whole gage unit will have to be replaced, but he will check the system with his computer to be sure. Dealer said he is backedup and will not be able to check the engine until a week plus.
Any Ideas?

Welcome to iboats.
You passed up where you needed to on the way down here.:D

I will get this up to the Johnson/Evinrude trouble and repairs forum.

The whole unit may have to be replaced. If it does, get a price and look around for a better price. I hope everthing works out and it's just something small.

Can you recommend a Evinrude Parts Company? My dealer gave a estimate of $200.00 plus labor.

Thanks

I don''t know of any to recommend, but search here at iboats and see if they have what you need. If you don't find anything at iboats, search the web.

Teleflex makes 4 different System Check tachometers...prox $200 each or genuine OEM(BRP) part # 177047 is black bezel/black face=$85.26 or part#775800 is chrome bezel/white face=$94.48...labor shouldn't be much to put in a gauge...unplug and plug in...unless they're gonna' hook up the laptop diagnostics

the Check Engine lite is just like the one on your car or truck. Any number of things can make it come on. Most likely the gauge is not bad, but there is an error code stored in the engine computer that has to be addressed.

Since you had to jump start it, I'll be the code is for low voltage, but have a trained tech check it out to be sure.

Ditto to what Seahorse said. I recently had an issue with mine and even though all relevant components checked out within specification for resistance, the TP Sensor was sending low voltage back to the EMM. This could only be diagnosed via dynamic testing on the diagnostic software with engine running.

I had a similar, but not exact problem with my 94 Vindicator 200 last weekend. Mine ended up being something totally different, but have you tried a hard reset by completely disconnecting your cranking battery from the cables for an hour or so? That usually forces your system to go to default and reset.
