So, I bought an engine for my pontoon boat. It’s finally installed and starts right up. Idles perfect. I have the XPS XD100 full synthetic oil all hosed in. I bought software. Evinrude diagnostic ver 5.1.0. I followed procedures to install. Connected to the engine, turned on 12v power. No communications.
Question 1. Is the bootstrap cable required?

Question 2. Because it won’t connect, I still don’t know what it is I need to check for. So because we are at the end of the season, could someone fill me in on what settings I must check, verify and so on. This way once I get communications working I’d like to finish without delay.
Thanks

you should visit the ETEC user board for articles such as these and expert help on ETEC issues

did you install the updates and driver files for the FDTI interface and the USB com port to the triangular cable connector ?

BTW Diagnostic sw is great information provider and handy for testing things but could cause issues .
remember the old saying.. if it works don't fix it :)

If it fires up good runs good it is probably good so just pamper it
with 2+4D, carbon guard EV engine cleaner etc... new impeller, gear oil

my 2005 75 ETEC still runs great approx 400 hrs of use

Yes, I changed the port from 3 to 6 and it immediately connected. I got it done. Thanks

if not familiar... I suggest you proceed with caution Brain tissue on the EMM is sensitive. don't go changing things to fast or...erase things to oblivion .

check the fault log for past :) or..existing faults :-(
