Sorry to post here but there's no answer from the Controls page.
I need to replace a shift cable casing on an Evinrude 20. The rear of the casing broke out.
I understand the replacement parts; a casing, a ferrule for the cable and 2 set screws to fix the cable to the ferrule.
My question is how do I get the old casing off the cable? It appears that it may have been pressed on at manufacture. There are no features to grab on to.
Shall I smash it?
Thank you,
J

You have what is called a " snap in " cable and not considered repairable.----But grind the bits off it and give it a try.

You describe the old-style cable with the two set screws that together grip the inner cable wire. If your fix fails, you can still find the older style cables, if in fact that is what you need.

Tah dah!
Cracked off old plastic. Cut away and pried off lugs.
Installed new casing, ferrule and set screws.
Thank you.
