The previous owner tried to force the nozzle out and broke it, as you can see in the picture. Now I have to try to drill them out without damaging the thread.

Hello, I found a carburetor by chance on eBay, it will be delivered in the next few days. It is from a 1972 40hp engine. Now I still have questions for you, the carburetor already has an electronic choke, should I leave it as it is and install it or do I have to install the thermal choke from the old carburetor. If I leave it like that, what do I do with the water pipes and the pressure pipe.

Whether or not the Automatic Choke will fit the newer Carb remains to be seen. Looking at the Parts diagrams for both, there are some differences with the Choke Shaft as well. You might want to run another wire to the dash, and install a push switch to use the Electric Choke, easier than trying to convert Carb to Hot water Choke. As for the water hoses, just use a fitting to join them together, and plug the Vacuum hose. A 63 and 72 also have different part # for the cam Actuator on the Armature Plate that opens/closes the Throttle plate at low speeds. I doubt that makes much difference, but it is another Unknown

Thank you, as written, I only get the carburetor delivered. I'll install it first and just test it. What about the vacuum hose on the old choke? I'll report back when I've tested. I'm glad I ended up here in the forum, you're all a great help

Hello, I have now received a used carburetor, it was very gummy. I disassembled it and cleaned it in an ultrasonic bath, it worked fine. I then installed it, connected the electrochoke and started it in the water barrel. I was happy, it started straight away and ran reasonably well. What's annoying is that it smokes a lot and the cooling water gets oily very quickly. I think he's running too fat. But I only have 2 settings, a nozzle at the bottom of the float housing and the upper idle nozzle. I've tried different settings, but it doesn't change much. Is there a rough basic setting for the nozzle setting. Thanks in advance Rainer

It will smoke alot if the motor hasn't been run in a while. Should get better as you run it. There will be lots of unburnt oil/gas mix in the barrel. It's normal. You won't notice it when you get it running out on the lake. The low speed needle should be turned out 1.5 turns from fully seated to start.
