Just bought this motor. It was painted and I can't find model number plate so I don't know the year. Possibly 1986-1989. No compression on #4 bottom left piston. 70psi on #3. 110 on both 1&2. Motor still cranked and started with compression issu, not to mention the cracked bottom carb bowl leaking on both plugs. Had to pump primer bulb to keep it running. Water was coming out fine no problem. Only ran for 15 seconds on muffs. I was warned about the compression issues before purchase. Cost if brought to shop $2,500. Anyone could lend some knowledge on what I'm up against?

You are looking at the nearly world famous ---BROKEN RING ---syndrome.----Every one of these motors will suffer the same fate as hours build up.----You need 4 O/S pistons and rings.----Lower unit inspection.---Carburetors.---Cooling system ETC.

Some will argue.----You need to replace all 4.----The other 3 pistons are also ready to fail.----And putting new rings in worn ring grooves is also a mistake.

Thanks for the help. I ended up pulling motor off and rebuilt a 1977 85 hp javelin. Paid $100 for the motor. 120 psi on all 4
