evinrude 40hp please help

This is a 1972 motor. I had the motor running at high speed, and it was missing. Then when I shut the motor off, it wouldn't start up again. I checked the compression and it has almost 120 psi. Any ideas on what could be the problem or where I should start looking?<br />Thanks

Welcome to Iboats, herb05!<br />Start by checking spark. It should be able to jump a 3/8" gap off each spark plug lead to ground (engine block).<br /><br />Before your engine died, was it recently serviced or anything? When did it last run properly?
