Evinrude 40hp lower unit removal 1992 model te40elenj

Anyone have detailed instructions with pics on removing the lower unit on a 1992 40hp evinrude outboard mainly looking for shift rod disconnect . I have done mercrusier i/o
but this is my first outboard so any help would be great.

Don't have pictures or detailed instructions. On my 95 - 40 HP Johnson the disconnect is right under the bottom carb. Had to remove a few parts just to see it and it was a pita to get at. Best of luck. Rick.

It's easiest to remove the pan under the powerhead when trying to access the shift rod pin. The rest of the bolts are in plain view.

where should i have the control handle when removing lower unit
forward /reverse ? anyway to keep the rod from moving during assembly any tips would be great.

Where ever gives the best clearence, just remember to keep the lower unit in the same gear when you put it back togeather.

What type of lower unit lube should i use for 40hp evinrude

Marine grade 80/90 wt or premium lower unit oil.
