Hi There,

I have read numerous discussions on this topic, but still haven't figured out my problem so i wanted some advice from the experts. I have a 1985 Evinrude VRO 40 hp outboard on my pontoon boat. It runs great as long as you pump the bulb... but dies shortly thereafter if you do not keep pumping it. I removed the VRO pump, that appears that it was set up on the fuel side only, (all oil lines removed and new fuel lines installed and was told to run 50/1 mix). I replaced it with a regular fuel pump, conversion kit. Still does not run unless your pump the bulb. I haven't replaced the small inline fel filter (i only bought it a month ago) a thought maybe that was clogged or something??? Of course it could be a vacum leak, I was just wondering the best course of action from here. Thank you for any advice.

Having to continuously pump the primer bulb is the usual indication of a faulty fuel pump.

What pump did you install?

Pull the screen on your new pump and check it for contamination. If your running an inline filter the pump should be clean but I don't know what else to suggest except make sure nothing is sucking air. Best of luck. Rick.
