Working on a 1995 evinrude 40 hp tiller. The fuel primer isn't getting power. I tested the switch is good and the primer itself is good. I tried switching to a different rectifier but same thing. The rectifier I used came from another motor so I'm not positive that it is good. Could a bad stator cause no power to the purple wire on the terminal block for the primer? A way to test the stator?

Purple wire should be getting power from the battery. Bad wire or possibly a bad ground. Test and isolate the problem. Shouldn't be that hard.

The purple wire was secured to the terminal block that shares its connection with another purple wire. I should note there is a 4 wire harness coming from the underwood harness and the wires aren't connected to anything. The seller said at one tiime a switch was hooked to these wires so that the engine could be started from the front of the boat as well as from the tiller handle switch (why i dont know). The only way I can get power to the purple wire is to tie the red with purple stripe wire to the purple wire next to it as seen in the picture. For now I moved the purple wire that leads to the primer switch to a full hot 12v on the terminal block. Hopefully all this makes sense.

wonder if this could help on most 1990's diagrams. purple-white drives the primer via a push switch fed +12v with a RED .

this may help in the future.. just download and print locally
as per diag. the rectifier is not involved in supplying/activating the PRIME.... switch the+12 comes off the solenoid main +12 bat. connection :) The rectifier is bridged over the same wire but... only serves to recharge the battery

btw diagram error... notice the battery's +12 feed shorted across the top RED feeding the starter... if such was the case the starter would always run !!!!
