Sure looks like steam it disapates too fast for oil smoke.Observe the plugs when you pull them.Look for rust, water droplets or super clean.

Re: Evinrude 35 lots of blue smoke and some white?

I have been messing with it today and it just seems like its running really rich... I tried messsing with the idle screw but didnt seem to help. Also when I do the compression test it seems to be getting a lot(soaked) of fuel on the tip of the compression tester..

does anyone know how to adjust the carb?

2 things, just going back to your video, I don't know if that motor is idling, seems to be running between 1500-2000rpm and if it is, you can adjust the idle until the cows come home and it won't have an effect. 2nd, that is steam by the looks of it and going by the bucking and sudden stoppage of that motor me thinks you are getting water on the plugs, water and spark don't mix. Personally I wouldn't run that motor anymore unless you could be absolutely certain that the head/head gasket are tip top :D

If the carb has never been serviced it may be a good idea as part of this exercise.

To me this is idling

Re: Evinrude 35 lots of blue smoke and some white?

guess i should post in here:eek:

your first the idle is way to high!!!!

2nd video sounds just about right. thats how my little 10hp sounds.

clean the carb. clean carb= effecient burning=maybe less smoke. but it just looks like steam

change impeller havent done so in a while.( 1-3 years) if you dont remember or dont know do so anyways.

dont i mean dont shift gears until you fix your idle problem:eek: have changed gears at that idle before?

for compression i suggest a decarb. if numbers dont come to normal look into headgasket. get the right spark plugs! get new champion plugs gap at the gap they told you:cool:

Re: Evinrude 35 lots of blue smoke and some white?

It fires up quickly stalls a few times usually untill it warms up then idles fine (usually). When I rev it it smokes a lot and is slow to rev when I checked the plugs later today they were black so I know its just running way to rich. I will probably post another vid tomorrow from the cold start up.

Where can I find which plugs It uses? Right now it has the NGk-BZ7hs and I googled it to see which ones I need and Champion QL77JC4P came up are these the right ones?

Thanks a lot guys,
Dan

Champion Marine plug L77JC4 gapped to .030

Running rich if it indeed is will require a carb cleaning and a kit if the plugs don't help it run better, plugs don't usually cure a rich condition but try the cheapest route first.

also another thing to add is make sure you set your carb needles correctly.

AFTER you clean the carbs:D

50:1 mix tcw-3 marine outboard oil.

my 1958 35hp smokes a lot too. not so much at low speed but i still does. when i rev it up boy it looks like a bonfire. especially if i holeshot it. then it leaves a sheen of blue smoke behind me

Re: Evinrude 35 lots of blue smoke and some white? bad idle

i really feel that the steam problem isnt really worth fussing over since cold start it will smoke and steam. even the dfi have a tiny bit of blue smoke on start up cold just sometimes not noticable

ok im am very positive that you will need a carb cleaning and rebuild in order. it should be lean sneezing like that like especially at those speeds. about the carb start up you bring warm up lever all the way until stop. then turn key with choke until start may need a few bumps of choke but i dont think that engine will depends on climate i believe. and every engine is different.

then after use seafoam since it will be used to its fullest and wont have really hard time of it stalling. easier to decarb.
