Evinrude 25hp outboard wants to die when I give it gas

The trick to removing the carb without removing the starter is to use a cold chisel to remove the starboard carb nut. Make sure to use your cold chisel marks to install the nut correctly.

Now I've done it both ways but this saves you time. I mainly want people to do it "the long method" on here but one of the other problem solvers on here already disclosed that trick recently.

Two nuts, a few hoses and your off to the races.

Update: Sorry for the late response, last post was day before we left the lake and looks like that will be my last fishing trip for the year. Thanks for the guidance from all. Now that I'm home I'll take the carb off and clean it properly, I remember now that the motor sat for almost two years because I fractured my hip and it took forever to get that fixed. The problem came up on my first fishing trip after getting back on the water. Worked fine for a few days but them started acting up. It was intermittent though, and on this last trip, became... permanent. Leaving it sit for all that time I'm sure gunked up the carb.

I would agree....carb nut trick is used by many mechanics and an Evinrude dealer mechanic showed me years ago.

Do it or not, makes no difference to me.
