Rectifier has yellow wires going to it.----They come from under the flywheel.

Concentrating on getting the rude serviced and running. Then I'll get going with transferring the rest of the goodies from the Johnny. Noticed something odd yesterday. Looks like the electric start motor has a carb with a bump out on it to mount the choke solenoid. Guess if want that feature I'll have to swap the carb, or at least the bowl.

Like the other guy said, there is a lot more to this than you'd think. The Johnny also has a bank of wires mounted on the starboard side. Doesn't look too reliable. Bunch of screws with wires underneath.

Because it looks like a HS science project? Seems like it would have plugs, that's all. Preferably with locks like most cars do.

How so? Was my explanation hard for you to follow? Allow me to elaborate. What I see is a bunch of terminals that can come loose, get wet, become contaminated, and might well need to be removed and cleaned from time to time. Just seems like an odd way to do things. What am I missing?

It's more reliable than you are giving it credit. Terminal blocks like that are still used today.

Much easier to service a single wire in that terminal block then say a 20 pin connector which requires specialized tools to eject the pin from the plug housing for repair/replace.

Point well taken. It just looks sorta ghetto to me. Like somebody added it. Oh well one more part that will have to be transferred over I reckon. Beginning to think it would be easier to put the lower unit from the rude on the johnny, but the rude is in such nice shape, almost like new. I'm not in any real hurry though. I got a good motor on my boat, but we are under that wave of Canadian smoke, so don't really want to take the boat out right now anyway.
