Head is removed. How do I remove the "Adaptor Plate Assembly" to replace the water tube grommet?
The only thing I see are 3 bolts over a rubber assembly.

There are three bolts across the rear (31) and two at the front (17) under the top motor mount (19). You have to unbolt the steering arm (two large bolts from the front) and the bolts holding the top motor mount .

Thanks Interalian. Sounds like a job and a half.

I think I'll give a shot after the Holiday's. Let you know how I make out.

Happy Holidays!

You're welcome! Good luck and I hope you don't run in to any frozen bolts.

This is what your motor looks like before you start with that list:

This is a photo of what I have done so far.
I'll wait until after the New Year to continue the "Adaptor Plate Assembly".
Should the lower unit be removed for this repair?

Proably should as aligning the water tube during reassembly might be harder otherwise.

Once I remove the 3 rear bolts & the 2 front bolts, will the adapter plate come off easy or do I have to force it some how?
Should I use a screw driver or crow bar to pry loose. What would you recommend.

Once ALL bolts from post #4 are out, it shouldn't need any force. You will need to support the rest of the exhaust housing on removal of the two big bolts from the steering yoke.

Still having problems removing adaptor plate off.
Everything is loose but the stern bracket.
I removed the 1 bolt from the steering cable.
Trying to lift the stern bracket # 7 which appears as the only hold up.
But in the diagram, I see # 27 BOLTWHICH I CANNOT SEEM TO FIND ON THE ENGINE. (HELP)
Do I need to remove this bolt?
If I can get to that bolt and remove it, I believe the adapter plate will come off.
Any idea how I can find or get to that # 27 bolt?

It looks like you've gone too far!

You don't need to remove the steering tiller arm (7), you just need to unbolt it from the upper motor mount (#19 in post 4). Bolt #27 is the bolt that holds the tiller arm to the motor mount - two places. You're only trying to remove the top 4 inches (item #11 in post 4) - the water tube and exhaust tube are attached to its underside.

I am trying to lift the adaptor plate assembly.
In photo #2 you can see the separation but won't lift of because of the V shaped bars of the stern bracket.
Can you see what I am doing wrong?

4 more bolts to the bottom mounts and you'll have the exhaust housing off. Bolts #14 in the picture in your post 11. Apologies - when I work on things my hands do the work my brain forgets.

It was like delivering a baby. Came off so easy. Thanks, NO apologies needed!
Just to make sure in replacing the Water Tube Grommet, I need to remove the inner to housing screws #16 (5 of them) to get to the Grommet # 10 correct?

Yup. You need to remove the inner exhaust tuner from the bottom of the adapter plate. Water tube is then removable.

And as they say, re-assembly is the reverse of disassembly. :)
