Motor was given to me and has become a project . Compression is 110 and 110 on top cylinders, 100 and 80 on the lower cylinders. Can this engine be used with these readings. It starts and runs, does it have much life left in it? Might I be able to get a season or so out of it. My season is only a few times out as work seems to get in the way of all of my fun. This is an Evinrude 110 HP 1987.

Bottom 2 cylinders may indicate carb problems and should be looked into before assuming it's OK to run.
It could also be a bit of carbon build-up in the ring-lands...a good decarb may help bring them up...if it doesn't the damage may already be done if we have a lean condition due to crud in the bottom carb....

Before I go any further Thank You so much for your help. - Bottom carb was all gunked up, a mess actually. Reed valves also messed up, held open for some reason. After these repairs are done and this motor is running might this motor have a life left in it should these compression readings stay the same.

I would say the best thing you could do now is make sure ALL carbs are clean, including every jet and orfice you can find.
I assume the reeds are stock stainless???
They need to lay as flat as possible with no gap visable.
If all is well there, you need to perform a decarb atleast once, maybe twice and retest compression....this will tell you if it's mainly a carbon issue or if we have some other damage.
And Yes, the engine may have some life left, but it would still be best to check and do the items I've mentioned to tell us what the problem "may" be...

Walleyeed, Again Thanks for your response.I have cleaned the carbs and rebuilt them. I will now change the reed valves then start her up and decarb. I feel as though the carbs caused the bottom cylinders to run lean thus damaging them a bit. We'll see.

If the reeds were held open or bent for some reason, you may get some funky comp readings in that case too...Keep us posted.
