I have a 1973 18 hp Evinrude model 18304A that is missing the silencer. Will the motor run just as well without it, or would it be best to spend the time and money to find the parts to replace it?

Thank you.

The only silencer it ever had was the padded plate in front of the carburetor. The plate also held the choke and slow speed knobs. Is that still all there?

You should be able to run without it.

The choke is present and functioning, but everything else is missing. The slow speed needle valve is there, but appears to have been adjusted by using pliers to grip the end of the valve.
