Hopefully some of you wonderful mariners can help an inexperienced sailor in Oman.

I have a Evinrude VRO 140. Can you help with the following please.

I was told my prop is not correctly sized for the boat. It is 13 3/4 * 15. Does anyone know what it should be ?

The tacho does not work but when I switch on the ignition the pointer does move and it does move when I crank the starter. I have no idea. I don't have a manual and I am struggling to get one shipped out here. Any suggestions for a manual as well ?

The bottom of the gearbox has a fin like tail that end in a point. Mine doesn't as it has been bashed several times. It this critical to the performance.

I haven't had the boat and engine long so I am trying to get things sorted.

Appreciate any help.

Thanks

Griff

Without a tach, it is hard to say what size the prop should be.
Check the wiring to the tach, back to the pickup.
The fin-like tail is called a skeg, and it helpsc a little in manuevering, but it's main purpose is to protect the prop.
You can purchase a "Skeggard", which is a bolt-on extention. They were designed to protect the skeg, but can also restoree handling.
I would be very worried about the propshaft being bent, and would look for water in the lower unit lube.
Welcome to the forum, and to boating.

for the proper prop you need to go to your local prop dealer, there ismore to props than the engine, you need to know what size boat and what you you are using it for, fishin, skiing etc

Without a tachometer it will be impossible to size the prop right. Get the tach fixed first then see what your rpm is under the conditions you would normally operate in. Then you will know which way to start with the prop size.

Down South is absoutly correct! Without a tach it's impossible to proceed. Most likely your rectifier is bad. What model year is your motor?

Good luck!
