How Do you change/clean the main jets in a 1984 140 crossflow??

Also soes anyone have experience with boyesen reed valves? The motor runs ok but it seems a little lacking in low end tourque, (ie pulling out a skier) the prop is correct to give me 5300 rpm wide open, but it just seems to lack good low end "grunt"

another question,, Can you shave the heads to increase the Compression Ratio?? if so,, does anyone know how much??

Thanks for all the great help!!

T

Re: Evinrude 140 HELP!!

At a top rpm of only 5300 you will be low on "grunt". Especially if you try to drag a skiier.

Work with your set up to gain top rpm (raise the motor). You still may have to switch to a smaller prop to ski.

The Boyesens are great. You'll love 'em.

Start with a de-carbon treatment. Lugging the motor like that will cause a rapid build up of carbon on the pistons and stick a ring(s). You target rpm is 5800 with an average load.

Good luck!
