I have a Princecaft Vacanza with a 120 Evinrude outboard probably '93-'98 not sure. I started to emit a rapid very low tone clicketing from the warning horn soon after past idle. Usual warning tone are 10 times noisier. Fuel & oil supplies were checked OK. Tone was louder next day but still lower than usual.
I suspect a short from somewhere. Any clues?:/

Re: Evinrude 120 warning sounds

Rapid short tones usually denotes a 'no oil ' alarm.May be that you indeed have a oiling issue with the VRO pump. However these alarms do weird things at times. The fact that your alarm is not emitting the normal tone may be indicative of a faulty alarm horn itself, failed sensor ,or as you suspect ,faulty wiring. To help pimpoint the source ,you could try disconnecting sensor leads in an attempt to isolate the alarm.Start with the oil reservoir leads.
