What can I do to check loss of power.
Engine starts with no problem.
Runs at 1000 RPM's idle smooth.
AT full throttle it goes 2000 RPM MAX
Carburetor rebuilt no leaks, all hoses attached, fresh gas, no gas blockage or air in lines etc.
Plugs look good, new spark plug wires.
Oil pump wires were disconnected both pump & engine & hoses blocked. Using a 50 to 1 mix.
Don?t know what else to do.

Re: Evinrude 115HP 1995 (E115TLEOR)

Start with the very basics: Compression test first, then a spark gap test (testers are cheap and reliable) and then normally I'd say Fuel system inspection, but it looks as if you've done that.

If you know for a fact you have good compression, spark and fuel, then it's time to look at things like: Can you rev engine past 2k RPM manually, bypassing the throttle cable? (That will help confirm it's not a cable issue) Did you look at the fuel pump diaphragm? Is it cracked, etc.? Did the motor overheat and is it in "slow down protection mode"? Lot's of things still to check, but you need to make sure you have test 1 &2 done otherwise you can be chasing your tail. Post back the numbers and look at those other couple things mentioned and go from there.

Did it lose power on you while you were using it? Meaning, did it run correctly "before" and what happened the day it stopped running normally?

Use an inductive timing light to check for spark on all 4 cyls. The flashes from the gun will tell you a lot about the spark on each plugwire. Make sure the engine is fully warmed up prior to checking spark.

Hi emoney.

Compressions are #1=118 #2=118 #3=105 #4=118.
Looks like #3 is bad.
Anyway, what I wanted to tell you is that I started the motor at the dock and instead of running at 1000rpms it was at 850rpm then racing to 4000rps. I shut motor down right a way. Tried a few more times same result.
Got it to 850 rpm and put into gear. ran great 35 to 37 mph.
The only problem is the startup rpm's 850 sb 1000 and don't know why it is racing to 4000RPM.
Do I have a fuel pump problem? Should I look at replacement? $400
I tried priming the bulb, same effect.
I don't mind getting a fuel pump but I want to make sure that stops the racing problem.
Help

The 105 cyl is borderline. It's technically within the allowable 10% variance range, so it's ok. You might want to decarb the engine and see if the compression changes any. Regarding the high rpm's, check the timer base to make sure it moves freely. Possible it is hanging up in an advanced timing position. The timer base should move freely by hand. If the grease on the base dries out, it can stick.
