1994 115 will not put out more than 13V.
Replaced regulator twice. Output voltage from stator assy to regulator is approx 300V

Also, engine will only start when trimmed up as if too much water pressure in out drive causing not to start.

Any ideas.
My first post.............

Thanks in advance.
Ray

Hey Ray,
How charged up is your battery? It may not need to put out more than 13 volts. Is your battery going dead?
As for starting only when tilted up, could be that the float(s) are stuck open letting the engine get too much fuel when the carbs. are level. Just a thought.

What rpms are you checking the voltage to the battery? There are other tests, but it should make about 14.5 volts at 4500rpms, with a good meter and battery.

Almost,
Battery does run completetly down eventually and must be charged. The battery is new and will hold a charge when charged at home.
Good thought on the carb floats.
It is my father-in-law's boat and I believe he said he has to tilt engine mainly when engine is cold or has been not running for an hour or so.

Clanton, We checked output at various rpms.
I would think it would be around 14v above 3000 rpm.
Next step is to check with series connected ampmeter. I believe it should be around 9 amps with a weak battery.
Also, would anyone recommend checking voltage with batt. disconnected? I don't want to fry any electronics..............

Thanks Guys.
Ray

Checking your system with the cables connected is a no no. It won't tell you anything, and may damage accessories.

As stated, check the voltage at the battery at WOT and check the current at this time as well. An amp-clamp will make your life easier....

If the voltage is low and the amperage is zero, check for a/c voltage between the 2 yellow wires coming from the stator, going to the reg. If you have low or no a/c voltage, the stator is in question......
