Evinrude 115 1979 model question?

Hello
Im wanting to change the water pump in my motor i know i have to take the linkage apart of lower unit how do i do this and is this hard to get back togeather once i get it off?Also can someone send me a diagram of the this motor just showing me a little on what im looking for on the motor?I see where people on here say this is easy job i hope there right.Im lost though and need a little help on where the linkage is and how to get in there to get this loose.Also how many bolts am i looking at taking off to get this changed?

The shift rod is disconnected under the bottom carb. If you shift it back and forth, looking at the bottom carb from the starter side, you can see the shift pivot. You need to remove the screw in the pivot head to free up the shift rod to the lower unit. There are four large bolts evident at the seam between the midsection and the lower unit. Also, there are two more bolts above the prop. One of them hides inside the lower, under the skeg, which must be removed in order to get at it. You can access a factory part list online which may help you with pictures: epc.brp.com. When you have it apart, be careful not to turn the shift rod, as it's height is critical and it screws into the lower. Turning it adjusts it's height.

ok i got all linkage loose i took all bolts out and now i see the nut on the shifting linkage is got a flinge on one side i cant get it off because of the engine case how do i get the nut off the rod there must be a trick i cant figure it out?

Use a 1/4" socket set with extensions and a swivel/pivot knuckle. Nobody said it was easy.... You might want to have a magnet on an extension handy-in case you drop the screw into the lower cowl....
