Evinrude 110 low speed

I have a tracker 1600 tf with an evinrude 110. I usually run boat at 3500 rpm and occasionally at 4000 rpm, however boat is really slow to plane even when using trim, and at 4000 rpm runs at about 29 to 32 mph. What can I do to get up to plane faster and improve overall speed. Only had boat for about 3 months and previous owner said boat is slow to plane but runs upper 40mph.

Either the engine is not making proper hp, or you are overpropped. If the prior owner says it is slow to plane, I'd check the size of the prop on the engine first. That engine should run 5500+ rpm's at WOT, so it is not making enough (normal) rpm's. I would think that boat would fly with a 17 or 19 pitch prop.

As said above go for the prop first. What diameter and pitch do you have on it now ??

Do you have a whale tail fitted. Had a case where the owner had the motor trimmed right down for take off and the tail acted as a brake. Duh!
Other possibilities are the timing is out, the advance lever is not moving forward correctly or the carbs need rebuilding or all of the above.

I ended up working 16 hours today. I will check prop size in the morning and put it on here. It has a whale tail on it. I got a can of sea foam to add to fuel, which I will do this weekend in hopes that it helps clean it up

Finally got to check prop size is 13 1/2 X 20. It is stainless steel prop.

I have an 89 evinrude 110 bubble back on a HEAVY deep vee. 17 1/2 footer. high sided fishing boat. 15 gal fuel 2 large people it comes right up on plane and i trim it out 5700 rpm 41.3 top speed(So far ) don't know where the gas goes!!!!!!! but at 28-30 mph at 3200- its managable. had 2 brand new factory props(OMC) 13x19 there was a 3 mile diference between them tried a 17 x13 reved over 6000 and speed dropped below 40. biggest change came lifting motor as high as i could on transom where it remains. i worked in the marine industry for years and had my own small fiberglass repair business. is it possible you have water in hull/waterlogged foam???

Stainless props are made with extra cup at the trailing edge of the blade, effectively increasing the true pitch of the prop by one pitch. Your 20 stainless will perform more like a 21. Suggest you try another prop with a lower pitch, perhaps a 17-then recheck your rpm's and performance (speed.)

First off as said above, make sure the bt isn't water logged. Then make sure your tach is accurate and then start playing around with props.

when you say you run at 3500 and occasionally at 4000, is that all it will turn? or is that as hard as you run? dont be afraid to run at 5500 for a bit , then back off to cruise. i agree with others, sounds like the hull is heavy with water.

I ran boat at WOT today on flat water. In the beginning the boa,t struggled a bit then came up to about 5200 rpm I assume that 5200 was good. But still sluggish. After several times of WOT and crossing entire lake (about a 45 minute run) the boat ran great and would come up to a plane relatively quick. I am assuming that engine just needed to be "opened up". Later in the day the boat was turning 4800 to 5100 rpm (fluctuating) and pushing boat at 39.8 mph against wind and slight chop.
Should be noted that live well was full at end of day run if that water weight means anything.

The hull as far as I can tell with basic knowledge is dry. Boat was garage kept by previous owner and is in what appears to be great shape.

I am hoping that it is just operator error.

How would I check for waterlogged hull without cutting into boat?

If you have the engine running at 5200 rpm's, you are now close the the ideal rpm range (prop) for that engine. Suggest you try a 19 pitch. That should increase your rpm's by about 300-which should get you right at the target operating rpm's of 5500. When you do so, you'll also pickup 10% more torque/grunt out of the hole.
