Re: Ever missed out on a good deal?

just a thought......every time I have thought, "wow, I'll never get a deal like this again!" one of two things happens....the "deal" turns out to be a turkey of a deal or another "deal" shows up tomorrow. End result - most people aren't stupid, and the chance of getting way better than what you pay for is unlikely....YMMV

I looked at that boat for about 5 mins. It looked much better in pic trust me. Floor was shot along with the seats. I left and never even looked at the motor or drive.

There are deals to be had out there, but you have to be paitient.

I'm looking right now myself. I watch craigslist constanlty. I'm waiting for that one boat to just knock me off my seat.

What I find interesting is that there are postings that interest me, but I don't call because they are too far away, too big, too small, no motor, etc...but they catch my eye and I think about them...........and then I watch them continously get posted, day after day after day.....I have watched several boats for more than a year.

Re: Ever missed out on a good deal?

I looked for 7+ months after selling the last boat early last March. I probably missed out on one last year, but don't consider any boat a "deal" unless it checks out first. It was a 17' bay boat (Polar I think) with an almost new 60HP for $2000, but it was a few hours away in over some mountains. A rich guy was unloading it and didn't care much what it brought. It sold the day before work ended my required emergency overtime. Between the remote location and work, I couldn't get there and didn't want to plunk money down without seeing it in person. The outboard was prob better than what I have now, but the layout and quality of the current boat is nicer so I still feel like I got a deal.

I "almost" missed this one...emailed the guy 5 minutes after he posted it on Craigslist, told him I would be down the next day cash in hand. The entire rig is valued at almost 10k in the books....bought it for 3k....

When I went down to pick it up, he said that he had a dozen emails shortyl after mine with people wanting it, and many offering to pay him more than his asking price. He could have easily gotten it....but he was a real honest older gentleman who was true to his words.

Good deals can be had out there! Now I have a better than expected boat for fishing/fun this summer with the family, with what was a very low budget with mediocre expectations.

LOL! No, not changing my mind. I love the sailboat. I have a river about 100 yards from my house that feeds into the Cumberland River that feeds into the Mississipi. Anyway I would love maybe a little aluminum v-hull to play in the river with.

Ontop of that, I may also looking for a pontoon. The wind doesn't always blow in Middle TN, and I love the lake. The kids are in their 20's now and it would be great to hang with them on the lake, and I would feel pretty safe letting them have it for the day. (after they pass a safety course!)

Hey you got the number of that guy with the cuddy????????
