Re: Evenrude 70 motor problems

you have a problem in the high speed circuit. Plugged jet/s or weak fuel pump, float/s not working properly!

Welcome to iboats.

Yup, one of the most common problems with outboards, classic plugged high speed jet, they are in thebottom of the float bowl and are the first thing to plug up if you get any crap in your gas tank.

You need to clean your carbs as I said, high speed jet in the bottom of the float bowl, idle is on top front of carb and mid is on back top of carb.

Run a stranded copper wire through each jet and slean out all the passages as best you can, air in a can works well if you don't have a compressor, and yes you have to actually physically clean them.

Get an inline fuel filter on it and now would be a good time to change all your gas line if it is more than 5 years old including the bit under the hood.

+1 for the above advice. I only posted to comment that I bet the boat sat for a year or two and to suggest that if you don't have 100% known good fresh fuel you replace that too, after the carb cleaning. Sweet motor, you'll love it once it's working right. Don't keep trying to make it work like that, you can burn a piston if you try to run it with a plugged carb.

This is a pretty simple do it yourself job, read up a little here, watch the youtube vids, and if you don't already have one, get the FACTORY OMC manual. Ebay is where I got mine. It is priceless when trying to keep these old outboards ticking smoothly.

Moving to Johnson/Evinrude Outboard questions.
