Evenrude 20Hp ?

Hi,
I bought a second hand engine, Evenrude 20hp, and I would like to know the model and the year. All I have is a serial number. I dont see any model number on it.

With the old lower unit, makes it pre 1985 or so. @racerone can identify the decals. Exact year Isn’t critical as they are very much the same 1977-2005? But there are some differences.. it’s got a choke carb and not a primer, as well identifying it as earlier. But they swap so that’s not a tell tale. The biggest difference being the through prop exhaust vs the old style lower

Maybe the transom bracket was replace and the engine have the wrong serial number. I saw a decal from 1976 identical to this one. I need this information to be abel to get the good replacement parts and the good service manual.

Somewhere in the mid to early 70's.....look for a welch plug on the block which might have the model number stamped on it.

Clearly the model # tells me it is a 76 model.------The decals are also 76.-----And 20 HP models were only marketed in Canada for some years.----Your location ?

I didn't see a model number posted ...where do you see that?

Second picture is the serial number....did you decipher it from that?

Well----The first part on that line is the model number.----Followed by the serial #----It is that simple to one who knows these motors.

I see the disc in picture # 6----Is the serial # there the same as on the transom bracket?

It is, well the Cowl Decal, is 1976
The 20 is basically the same as an 18.
22 inch Block
20hp @4500 rpm
WOT range 4000-5000
21:12 gearing.

You can clearly see that it was assembled in Canada.----And the 20 HP was marketed in Canada for a number of years.----The 25 HP were also marketed in Canada and elsewhere !----For a number of years Evinrude stuck to 18 HP decals.-----Johnson marketed them with 20 HP decals.

I just also purchased a 20hp Evinrude made in Canada. Could not find any information on motor Apparently OMC U.S. did not make them after 1972 Member F R identiied it as a 1976 I also have a 1975 which he also idendtified some time ago they both share the same cowling decals not sure if that is correct or a PO added cowling. other tan that they look the same and I would think 18 or 25 hp parts would fit

The Cowl Decals were different between 75 and 76.

Some parts can be swapped, but don't go thinking you can easily change an 18/20 into a 25. It can be done but Complete disassembly of the Powerhead is required

sorry didn't realize giving free stuff to those that could benefit from it was a crime.
I'm having a shed cleanout and have heaps of free older outboard parts that would help members restore their motors , looks like I'm sending to scrap rather than helping members "as what forums are for i believe "". sorry guys .

Maybe is was the “and boxing” part of your post.
That could be considered some form of profit.
Like the adds on tv that say free shipping just pay handling. That can sometimes be more than the product you’re purchasing.
Could be wrong it’s just a guess.

if you check out AOMCI where folks gather to fix and revive older outboards you will find a welcome mat in the classified section where tou can sell buy and....donate I presume
