To start my 1990 6hp Evinrude, I must use ether the first time. After it runs for a short time, it will start without ether. I have installed new plugs and have fresh gas. Can you help me?

Re: ether starting

You will need to choke the motor whenever you start it cold. Pull the lever and leave it out until it fires.

You should not use a starter fluid because it has no oil. Rather, put some pre-mix in a spray bottle and use that.

Re: ether starting

ether is the easiest way to kill your engine, no lubricant, and burns to hot, can burn a hole in the piston very quick. it sounds like you need a carb rebuild. because it you have to prime the carb by spraying you have a fuel delivery problem.
