I am rebuilding by carb, fuel pump, and primer assembly on my 2000 25 hp Mercury. I am also replacing all fuel lines and fuel tank. I am wondering if what i have heard about the ill affects of ethanol in fuel are true? Will a fuel stabilizer counter these ill affects or should i only use non ethanol fuel?

I just spent $1556.00 to replace two fuel pumps because of this. I promise I will use a stabilizer for now on.

Re: Ethanol

Most of what you hear about ethanol is bunk.

If you intend to leave fuel unused for months on end, a stabilizer is a good idea regardless of the fuels formulation.
If the fuel is going to be used with in a month, I would say you should be fine.

A year 2000 engine should have rubber on it compatible with ethanol. Don't know if your replacing all that because it needs it, or because you think it needs it.
