What is everyone's opinion on the storage of gasoline with ethanol?

Should the tank be full or empty?

Should we use Stabl or something else?

Re: Ethanol and Storage

tony, I have read the only way to store a tank is full. Evaporation of a gallon of gas out of 30 or more is not significant but if it is out of only 5 then you have a varniush condition. Also, the more air in the tank to more humidity to condense and make water in the tank. I think this is general advice noit specific to ethanol. As far as stabil and ethanol, I dont have a clue but the bottle label will likely tell you.

i have been useing sta-bil and my fuel (36 gallon tank) has done fine over the winter

tommays

http://www.goldeagle.com/sta-bil/faqs_stabil.asp

How long will STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer keep fuel fresh?
For 12 months when mixed into fresh gasoline. Doubling the dosage will keep fuel fresh for up to 2 years.

Re: Ethanol and Storage

Freebee,

In MN we have ethanol in all our gas for 10 years. Doesn't seem to cause any problems, I just use stabil.

I have heard both arguments for storing empty and full. I have done both without issues. Because gas is so expensive I'll probably leave it with whatever is left in after the last time out.

PS Put the stabil in before the last time you take it out. Just to make sure you get it in the fuel lines and carb.
