Hello,

I'm looking for some information about Eska 3 or 3.5 hp motors. I'm looking for a small motor to use as backup on a small sailboat and someone had offered to sell me one of these for a nice price. Does anyone know if these are short or long shaft motors? The guy thought it was long shaft, but I'm not so sure. Does it matter on a 15' sailboat? Also, any general feedback regarding these motors would be appreciated. Thanks. :D

go with a major brand. parts can be hard to get for the off brands. yes, the shaft length matters as the motor has to pick up cooling water.

Re: Eska 3hp long shaft?

If it is a 15 inch transom it takes a short shaft.I don't think Eska made a long shaft.Short shaft is approximately 15" from where the clamp rests on the top of transom to the plate just above the prop.Long shaft is about 20 inches.
I would also reccomend a major brand. The Evinrude/Johnson 3 or 4 hp is excellent and available in a yachtwin (long shaft) if you need it.
