Escort Trailer Tires

Hello, new to this forum. Can someone tell me where I can find inexpensive but decent tires for my trailer?

2001 Escort
Tire size : 215/75D 14

It's a tandem trailer so I need 4 tires only no wheels.

Another thng is when i hear trialer length, is it the fill length of the trailer? from where the ball is to the taillights?

welcome to iboats. If you give your location, someone might know a source. A boat junkyard may be a place to get a spare, and a trailer repair shop might have used tires. For most people, trailer tires deteriorate before they wear out.

There is a really interesting and informative discussion here about why it is usually important to use tires made for trailers, and not car tires, for boats of substantial size and weight. Taking shortcuts is also a function of how much and where you trailer the boat. The discussion also includes why it is important to fully inflate them--they take a lot more air than car tires and more than the coin-op machines typically provide.

Hello,

I'm in the North Shore of Massachusetts. Currently the tires on the trailer says 215/75D 14.

I believe they are trailer tires. You're right that the tired deteriorate faster. The threads look fine but the sidewalls look worn out. This trailer just sat for about 3.5 years since I havent used the boat. This year i decided to use it so it's being tuned and fixed right now by a marine mechanic.

The same mechanic can do the tires he said. He has bee na boat mechanic for I thnk 30 years so he does pratically everything on boats.

The trailer I have seem to have little information on google. I looked for Escort Trailers.

I run Kenda Loadstars on my trailer and have no complaints. Usually buy my trailer tires from e-trailer or fleet farm.

$85 a piece from etrailer - no idea what you consider inexpensive

Carlisle tires don't have a great reputation, but lots of folks run them with no problems. I personally wouldn't put them on my trailers to save a few bucks.

Before you order tires or tires on rims from an online source, make sure you or the local shops are willing to work with them.
More and more shops are refusing to work with stuff you do not buy from them.
Or are charging a high fee just to change tires and/or the rims.

And sometimes the shipping and handling fees plus the local shop fees (if needed) ad up to be at or more than if you bought local to begin with.

More and more shops are refusing to work with stuff you do not buy from them.

Which is a good reason to buy a couple tire irons and learn how to do it yourself

The person fixing my boat will put them on. I spoke to him and he said just buy the tires and he will put them on.

General quality issues - tires that are out of round or separate. Do some searching around on the web and you'll see a bunch of threads. Like I said though, there are a ton of people using them with no issues too.

Ain't no such thing as cheap trailer tires. Pay now or pay later. You've got a tandem axle with D rated tires which means you've probably got a fairly hefty boat. Bias ply won't live as long as a radial on a tandem trailer. Bias will show rapid edge wear from turning on a tandem setup. I'd step up to Maxxis radials which will live longer, and are some of the most trouble free tires for trailers out there. And BALANCE whatever you get. Cupping kills a trailer tire just as fast as anything.

There you go again! Please start a thread with pictures and instructions on how you do this. I don't have a tire machine handy!

Watch this. Not mine, but like I said, never found the process interesting enough to take a picture of it. Uncle showed me how to do it when I was about 10. (farmers don't usually have tire machines)

If you don't like that one there are about a hundred other videos on you tube showing the same thing It is a lot easier to get skinny rimmed tires remounted by setting the rim on a bucket first so the tire has more room to flex down.

Thanks, Chuck! It was the comment about using a bucket in the other thread that had me confused. Think I'll tackle swapping my trailer tires.
