Envinrude 135hp locked in reverse

I have a 135hp, Model 135 583E, Serial no A113110<br />& it is locked in reverse.Can someone help troubleshoot this problem.Control lever goes in foward direction but boat motor still in reverse.

Do you have manual or electric shift? If you have manual, then make sure you don't have a cable break somewhere between the control and the motor -- the cable ends are the most likely spot. <br /><br />Failing that, the shift linkage may have broken or come undone -- the lower unit will have to be dropped to verify. Pull the cowling off the motor and watch the shift linkage at the motor while you try to shift the control box lever. If the linkage at the motor doesn't move then you have a broken cable or control box is messed up. Then disconnect the shift cable at the motor and shift the motor linkage by hand and see if the motor will then go into neutral and forward.

Check to see if the threaded trunion on the shift cable at the engine end is clamped in the retaining socket.

Hi Ken,<br />Yes I do have a broken cable and it is a manual shift, cable is broken 180mm from motor end.<br />Got any ideas of what the best way to replace the inner cable wire, or is it better to replace the full cable control.<br />Thanks for your response<br />Doug

Yes,a complete new cable.Good idea to replace in pairs.Just hate to see the throttle jam.<br /><br />DHP
