I found a 16' cape horn hull that I'm thinking about buying...but only if my 48spl will be enough power to get boat on plane and run efficiently without putting too much stress on the motor. I know better cenario would be at least a 70hp, but I have a bullet proof 48spl that has never given me problems. Any words from the wiser than me?

I don't know what it is rated for or the weight of the boat, I have yet to go in person to look at the boat, and I can not find any spec. info for the 16'. Other 16' cape horns that I have found for sale ready for the water have 70s on them.

if it's a flat bottom skiff or scow, or maybe a bay boat, it should be OK but if it's a V or had much weight to it, that may be small. It also depends on what you are going to use it for, conditions, typical load, etc.

if your 16 is like the current 17, then no, the 48 won't work. That's the relatively heavy deep V boat that requires a bigger motor. The 17 is rated for 150 max (which sounds crazy to me) but 48 (33%) is too low.
Nice looking boats, though
