mechanic wants 225 plus rebuild cost to rem and repl. starter.. wtf??? to much. i will bust my as* to get it off for this.

well here its 105 and hour and up and it is no piece of cake to change a starter even on easy boats<br /><br />never mind the ones you have to pull the motor to get to the bolts<br /><br /><br />tommays

That "quite warm" ground cable would make me suspicious. I'd do a massive cleaning and tightening of ALL related connections (as was suggested before) before I yanked the starter.

yea.. checking is just that.. starter is still goin bad. I believe if you have to hit the starter to get it to turn over .. something inside the starter is on its way!?? i think the cable is warm because of the draw on the bad starter?? am i correct?? OH and is it true that a new starter may not line up with the flywheel good enough, and to just rebuild original.. i think thats bulshi*, IMO

I had the same thing happen to me, although it happened, because I tried to throw the boat in gear, while starting. The starter was none to happy and essentially locked up. I had to loosed the bolts and jiggle the starter to get it to not lock up. I learned my lesson, to not mess with the shifter while starting. Haven't had a problem since!

its fixed... a starter repl. cost-$380 parts and labor. wish i had the time .. could have saved $$
