engine will not fire after it runs for a few minutes.

i have a 1990 sea ray 160 bow rider with a 3.0 mercruiser engine. when i crank it up and let it run for a few minutes and shut it off it has no fire going to spark plugs. if i let it sit for a few minutes it will fire back up. any suggestions?

not sure which ignition it has but it has a coil pack a mercathode and some kind of control moudule that runs into the coil pack and distrubetor.
