I took my Ranger bass boat out today for the first time this year.
Shortly after getting on plane the whistle came on. I think it must be the water temp gauge. It was spitting water out, so I know water was circulating through the engine, but the temp gauge needle wasn't in the position that it usually is in. The engine is a 1993 Mercury 175 EFI, How do I check to see if there is an obstruction or do you know what might have caused the whistle to go off today? Thanks so much for any input.

Re: engine water temp gauge

Obviously your engine is over heating. Check the stats and then change the water pump(impeller). Spitting to me indicates an uneven flow of water, which should be steady while running on plane at rpm level sufficent to get on plane.
