Engine turns over but won't fire

I'm looking to buy a 1998 Stingray 190 LX. When I went to the guys house to hear it run, he couldn't get it started. Totally dead. Well, he took it to the nearest marine shop and they had to replace the starter in it. After that he took it to a nearby lake and ran it around for about 30 minutes...until it just died on him. When he tried to start it up, the engine would turn over but wouldn't fire. Any ideas?<br /><br />All I know about the engine is that it's a Volvo V6 with 190 HP. I may be able to come up with some more info if you need it. Thanks in advance.

It's a Volvo outdrive but a Chevrolet 4.3 V6.

There should be a model number on your engine somehwere. That will be needed. Something like 4.3XXXXXX with the X's being letters after the numbers.<br />Then to isolate which system is the problem use this chart and get back with us which one is bad fuel, or spark.<br /><br />

Check the kill switch, did he pull the safety lanyard out by accident, will kill the engine and not let it start again (will still turn over though).
