Ok guys i just clean out the carb.. and did a car coil conversion on the ignition... the problem here is the engine wont stay running.. it will continue running when the key is turn to the start position.. the starter keep running but not even turning the fly wheel.. which mean the flywheel is spinning by itself... what am i missing.. i connect the ignition switch to the coil position side and the points to the negative with a condenser.. is the coil suppose to stay on and keep providing the spark? do i need to put a resistor in?.. The spark is gone when the startposition is release.. am i missing a wire ? the coil is 12v by the way some say if you have 12v you don't need a resistor..

Re: Engine turn off when release start position

Well I got a bad amplifier and rectifier. I did some searching found some old thread that people been converting amp to a car coil ignition.. I got it start but it will not stay running when i release the key from start position.. obviously when the key if release the coil stop generating spark.. I'm new to boats I mess around some more and hook a straight line from the battery to a switch then to the coil and it keep on running.. idle is good.. but i don't know if it is safe to do that.

You have the coil lead connected to the wrong ignition switch terminal.

How are the terminals marked on that switch.... what letters are marked by each terminal?

You need to attach it to the terminal that has 12 volts with the key in the ON position.
