engine trouble

I have a 72 Johnson 65 HP engine and when I open the throttle all the way up it goes for about 30 seconds and it will bog down and then stall. I checked the compression and I have about 150 on the bottom two and hardly any compression on the top. Could it be the head gasket or something else?

Pull the head. It is only a few bolts and have a look. you might not like what you find. Look for scoring and metal parts in there. If it is clean and smooth you might get by with a head gasket but there is a reason that it went out. It would be nice to know why. Overheated at one point maybe?

I removed the head yesterday and unfortunately it was scorned and the head gasket was bad too. there was water coming out of the middle cylinder and the top cylinder had absolutely no pressure. I made the mistake of listening to people tell Mr that using stabill was good enough so I never mixed oil with my fuel and so there was no lubrication going thru the cylinders. so now I an looking at a $1500 repair but I think I'm just going to sell the motor to someone who needs parts. Thanks for your help

stabil only to stabilize gasoline that is going to sit for a while not a lubricant. Sorry for the death of an engine. At 1500 it is best to part it out and look for another. You always have to mix your fuel 50:1.
