Hey! Got this rinky dink, broken down boat a little while ago and put some serious work into it. I'm 16 so don't have the most experience but i've been restoring the 1989 Ranger with an Evinrude 150 XP 2 Stroke 1990 for quite a while. It didn't run so I rebuilt the carbs, changed the fuel lines, rewired some of the boat, and installed bilges, livewell pumps and other appliances. I've been solving problems one by one but the only one troubling me is that my motor switches into neutral while running. This is a tragedy for me because I have worked so hard to find a problem i can't seem to figure out. I ride for a while and im on plane, when suddenly I hear a grinding noise and I slow down real fast and my engine cuts off. I suppose that its going into neutral or reverse. I opened up my gearcase and the lube oil was old but I dont think that would cause something like this solely on the oil. Changed the oil but don't want to take her back out incase I seriously damage something. The gearcase oil screw had some metal shavings but not too much. Is it the clutch cable? Any help would be lifesaving!
