Re: Engine stuck

I would run the boat for 1/2 hour on the lake doing whatever u do on the lake.
Then shut engine off, and check oil color, if it's not any worse, continue boating.
If it's worse then you must have a leak letting more and more water in.
Eventually you will "boil off" the water and the oil will clear up.

If it were me and the oil cleared up, I wouldn't bother change it. I've seen oil grey from water clear up this way in a car engine before.

Bt Doctur,

I checked cheap oil in the store. The only 15W-40 is for diesel engines. The only 20W-50 is for race cars (at least this is what the label says). So, which one is better for the short-time use in the marine (gasoline) engine? As I explained above, only to run the engine for half an hour and replace the oil again, just in order to remove water from the system.

Thanks.

I'm not 'the doc', but I can add here.

Please, all other posters, let's NOT turn this into an oil thread.

The oil I run in my engine, all the time, is 15W-40 diesel engine oil.... That's my choice, and I'm not saying that's what everybody should do. I do that because I have a diesel engined tow vehicle and didn't want to run different oils in car and boat. I did my own research and came to my own decision. What other people do is entirely up to them....

As far as running oil for 30 minutes or so just to clean up the interior of the engine, just get the cheapest... 15W-40 diesel engine oil will be fine. The race engine oil would also be fine... I would also buy a couple of the cheapest oil filters you can too, change them every second oil change... Then when you're happy the engine is clear, put your oil of choice and a quality filter on....

Chris......
